We conduct all the assessments in a style that is as informal as we can manage in order to put you at ease and to try and take away the apprehension which we all know everyone feels on such occasions. Normally, you will be met by a member of the management committee and introduced to your assessor at the venue where we base the start and finish of the assessment.
After a quick check of the vehicle’s lights and your eyesight, you will drive for about 40 minutes, on a variety of roads, returning to the base point. The assessor will then ask you some questions based on the Highway Code (more friendly in style than the last driving test most of you took!) and discuss your performance with you.
The aim of the discussion is not to make you feel inadequate but to provide constructive advice on ways to improve. A grading will be given and a report sheet will be completed which is given to you immediately.
We do keep a record of the grades, awarding a certificate for the achievement of five consecutive grade 1s; and for each subsequent group of five – the record is 37, so far!
